Relaxing and meditating, far from the city

A quiet break at the foot of the Siroua

A Berber village near Taliouine, a terrace facing the mountains, Saïd's cooking: here, life slows down. Meditate at sunrise, laze by the pool, walk at an easy pace, and leave the city far behind.

A nature and relaxation break in Morocco, away from the crowds

No set programme: the guesthouse gives you time, and the valley does the rest. Dinner and breakfast are included in the price of the room.

Sunrise over the valley

From the terrace, the sun first touches the ridges, then the rooftops of Tagmoute. With a hot cup of tea in your hands, it is the time to meditate, or simply to watch.

The quiet of the village

No traffic and no crowds: the sounds of the village, a donkey in the distance, the wind in the trees. The nights are quiet, and you wake up without an alarm.

A view of the mountains

Above the rammed-earth houses, your gaze runs all the way to the ridges of the Siroua. They change colour all day long, from the gold of the morning to the pink of the evening.

Saïd's cooking

The ftour beldi (traditional breakfast) with its tafarnout bread in the sun, saffron tagines and couscous in the evening: home cooking that travellers often mention in their reviews.

Meditate and unwind, at your own pace

No classes and no timetable: everyone finds their own spot and their own moment.

A day at the foot of the Siroua

  1. Ftour beldi by the guesthouse pool: tafarnout bread baked on river stones, tea, orange juice and croissants

    Morning

The sun comes down over the village

It first touches the ridges, then the rooftops of Tagmoute. By the pool, Saïd's ftour beldi is waiting for you in the sun: aghroum n'tafarnout, the Amazigh bread baked on stones from the river in the earthen oven, still warm, with Moroccan tea and orange juice. Fancy olive oil, amlou or honey? Ask Saïd what there is that morning.

  2. Straw hat and sunglasses by the guesthouse pool, in Tagmoute

    Daytime

Walk at an easy pace, or do nothing at all

A walk through the palm grove and along the river, starting from the guesthouse, the rammed-earth lanes of the village or, with a guide, the Tislit Gorges and the great cliff where eagles nest… Or stay by the water with a book, in the shade of the garden.

  3. Coffee and a square of chocolate on the pink terrace of the guesthouse, facing the village of Tagmoute and the mountains at sunset

    Evening

    Golden hour on the terrace

The pink wall holds on to the warmth of the day: it is the moment to ask Saïd for a strong coffee or a tea. Across the valley, the mountains turn pink and mauve, the village lights come on one by one, and around the pool the string lights start to dance on the water.

  4. The guesthouse garden at nightfall, with its palm tree, in front of the Siroua mountains

    Night

    Night falls over the Siroua

After the Berber dinner with saffron cooked by Saïd, the garden goes to sleep: the palm tree stays in the light, the mountains become shadows, and the calm settles in. All that is left is to look up at the sky.

Your questions

Where can I have a relaxing break in Morocco, away from the crowds?

At the foot of the Siroua massif, in Tagmoute, near Taliouine: a Berber village in the Anti-Atlas, in saffron country, between Ouarzazate and Taliouine. Auberge Pied du Siroua welcomes its guests there as family, in peace and quiet.

Can I meditate or do yoga at the guesthouse?

Yes, on your own: the terrace facing the mountains and the garden lend themselves to it, at sunrise as well as in the evening. The guesthouse does not offer classes: bring your mat, and go at your own pace.

What is there to do on a relaxing break?

Nothing, if you like: that is what the pool, the garden and the terrace are for. Otherwise, easy walks from the guesthouse, the village and its people, the saffron, and hikes with a guide (the Tislit Gorges, the great cliff, the summit of the Siroua), to arrange with Houcine.

Is it cold at night?

Outside summer, the evenings are cool in the mountains: bring a jumper. Travellers say so in their reviews: the rooms have plenty of blankets and the showers are nice and hot.

How much does a relaxing break cost?

The price is that of the rooms, on a half-board basis: dinner and breakfast are included. Rates per room and per night are on the Rooms and rates page.

How do I get to the guesthouse?

The guesthouse is in the village of Tagmoute, in the commune of Assaïs, on the road between Ouarzazate and Taliouine. Detailed directions are on our Getting here page; if in doubt, ask Houcine on WhatsApp.

What is the best season?

Every season has its charm: in spring, the fields are green; in summer, the pool cools you down; in autumn, the saffron flowers around the village, and Taliouine holds its saffron festival.

How many nights should I plan?

Two or three nights at least: on the first day, you arrive; on the second, you slow down; on the third, you no longer want to leave.

Come and slow down at the foot of the Siroua
